Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of car will I be learning in?

I currently teach in a 3 door, Renault Clio, 1.5 Diesel.

What car will I take my test in?

You can take your test in any car, providing head restraints, seatbelts and extra mirrors are fitted, however it is always best to take the test in the car you learn in.

How much will it cost me?

Prices vary depending if you pay per lesson, or use the block booking discounts, please check the courses page for more details.

How many lessons will I need?

Research by the DSA shows that the current average amount of lessons required is 42 with a further 22 hours of private practice to pass. Remember this is only an average, the majority pass in fewer lessons. During your training you will be advised of the likely number of lessons required.

Do you do intensive courses?

Yes as long as my diary allows!

How will I know when I am ready for test?

Once all subjects have been covered  and you are able to drive/perform all manoeuvres  without assistance then I will provide you with a test date.

Can I take Pass Plus with you?

Yes I am qualified to teach Pass Plus and also registered on Hampshire's Pass Plus scheme.

Can I have lessons at the weekends?

Obviously there is limited availability at weekends, but I do endeavour to work at least one if not both weekend mornings.

I've heard I should book my test for the beginning of the week as the examiners have limited amount of passes, is that true?

There is no evidence to suggest that this is true, and brings up a good point that a lot of people hear a lot of things regarding driving lessons/tests, most of which are not true, which makes it all the more important to take your training with a Government Approved Driving Instructor, such as myself as we will provide you with the facts and skills required to pass your test.

Will you be able to provide me with any help/advice in order to pass my theory test?

Yes as well as covering areas in the driving lesson I can also provide you with software to help .

Is it a good idea to practice with family between lessons?

Extra practice can always help providing it is structured and done in the right way, I can provide notes to give to your family to assist with your practice between lessons.

I have already failed my test before, would changing instructors help me pass?

Sometimes a different set of eyes can give a different prospective of possible problems, so a change can sometimes help.

Sometimes I might need to be picked up from work or college, is this okay?

This is fine as long as I have prior notice and am able to arrange my diary accordingly.

I need to cancel my lesson, will I still be charged?

Under my terms and conditions a minimum of 24 hours notice is needed, however there are some circumstances to which the 24 hour notice may be waived.
